Why Ski Snowshoe Mountain

Enjoying a scenic spot at the highest point of Cheat Mountain, Snowshoe offers an all-round winter sports vacation that other West Virginia resorts simply cannot match. The state’s premier resort features three distinct ski areas with a total of 60 trails, along with progressive terrain parks and accessible natural glades, all serviced by an efficient chairlift network. But the skiing is just one side of the experience here, because in the village you’ll find highly-rated restaurants, lively bars and even a nightclub to keep you entertained off the slopes. The terrain here is far better suited to confident skiers and snowboarders than first-timers, but there is a learning area and rental shop to cater for newbies. You can stay right next to the slopes in self-catered condos or larger vacation homes, while in the nearby town of Davis there’s affordable hotel rooms and award-winning beer at Stumptown Ales brewery!

It’ll feature a brand new high-speed six-passenger chairlift for a swift journey to the summit, along with an upgraded snowmaking operation and redesigned base area. Even from the top at 3,600 feet you can cruise a gentle green all the way down to the bottom. Experienced skiers and snowboarders will find a handful of black runs and a terrain park to keep them occupied, but this isn’t the place for experts. Snow cannons cover all of the slopes at Winterplace, so even when the white stuff doesn’t fall naturally this resort stays open for skiing. Ski-in/ski-out condos and forest cabins are available to rent here plus you’ll find lots of hotel options in Beckley, just a 30-minute drive away.
